Happy holiday season to all our members in Local 2881 (and their families, of course)! As you probably know, Local 2881 is having a holiday party this year on December 14. It will be held at Ralph’s Kitchen (at the Kelley Gazzaro VFW Post, map) from 4:30pm until whenever the party ends. Tickets are on sale, so see Greg Baribault, Lou Maccarone, or Carmino Paliotta. We’re charging a $10 deposit, essentially. When you come to the party, we give you your $10 back.
Also, we have a new trustee on the Local 2881 Executive board. It is Brian Harrington of CRMC, serving the 2009-2012 term. Congratulations and welcome!

Last week was an action packed week here on the new Local 2881 website! There certainly was a barrage of new information. Below is a recap of last week’s pertinent posts.
- Protect Our Pensions!
From what I understand, Council 94 provided information to help our members write to their state representation in the interest of telling them that we are not happy with proposed cuts to our pension benefits.
- Join the e-mail announcement list
Sign up to the Local 2881 e-ail announcement list! Whenever there is an important message we need to quickly get out directly to members, we will send an e-mail to anyone who signs up. When you do sign up, please use a non-work e-mail (i.e. not your dem.ri.gov or crmc.ri.gov address). If you don’t have a personal e-mail address, we can help you set one up with a free service such as Yahoo or GMail.
- Update your personal information at the AFSCME Council 94 website.
To best serve our members, we occasionally call you at home, or send information to your house. To ensure that you receive this information, please visit the Council 94 website and update your contact information.
- Letter from the Executive Board
Speaking of home mailings, last week, the Executive board sent a letter to our members homes regarding the challenges that face us, calling for unity within the membership, and announcing the creation of our website, www.local2881.org.
Finally, don’t forget that February’s general membership meeting is this Thursday, at 4:20pm in the 3rd floor cafeteria of 235 Promenade Street, Providence. Hope to see you there! As always, please feel free to send along your questions or comments by using the Contact Us page.

In the next few days, Local 2881 members should be receiving a letter from the executive board. If you do not, then Council 94 does not have your correct mailing address. If you do not receive the letter, please follow the directions found here. Below the cut is the text of the letter.
WAIT! There is more to read… read on »
