Brothers and sisters, here’s the latest news that you need to know.
– Thanks to everyone who came out to the Local 2881 outing at Goddard Park. It was a really good time, in a place we should be proud of because it is cared for by our fellow union members.
– Don’t forget that Friday, August 15 is the last day submit applications for the Local 2881 Scholarship. You can submit it by mail, in person or via email to Lou Maccarone.
– Finally, primary season is raging ahead, and Council 94 is getting ready to play a big role in it. I received the following message from Council recently:
Dear Sisters and Brothers:
The September 9th Democratic Primary Election for Governor has high stakes for our members and our union. The last few years AFSCME employees and their families have taken many hits. Now it’s time to fight back.
Council 94 has endorsed Angel Taveras for Governor and is in the process of launching our most advanced and aggressive political action program to date. We have one goal: elect Angel Taveras Governor of Rhode Island. Like us, Angel knows what it’s like to work for a living. We know he’ll be on our side when it counts. We’re almost there, but to elect Angel Governor we need YOUR help.
Tomorrow Wednesday, August 6th, Council 94 will begin direct door-to-door contact with our members, making sure they know just how high the stakes are in September’s primary elections. From Wednesday through Election Day, Council 94 will be in full political mobilization mode conducting member-to-member canvasses, phone banks, or both on a daily basis.
With your solidarity and support, Council 94 will elect Angel Taveras!
J. Michael Downey
President AFSCME Council 94
